Hummingbird Sage (Salvia spathacea) defies logic in the dry climate of California. It’s lush, soft green leaves and brilliant spires of magenta blooms seem too good to be true when they come to life with winter rains. They prefer more rainfall than Southern California typically receives, so I have only seen them in backyard gardens. They are a great magnet for hummingbirds.
